The Process

I've had many people tell me that I need to write a book about my life. Depending on when you met me, I might be have been a gymnast, or an art student. Maybe I was a bartender or working for a race car mechanic. Or, maybe I was a preservationist in Savannah or Boston. Maybe you met me while I was leading a gypsy's life with the Renaissance Festival through Arizona, California, Texas, or Colorado. Maybe I was following you as a private investigator in Arizona. If you played for the Phoenix Suns, this is totally possible. If our acquaintance is recent, say the last 20 years, then you're probably affiliated with the military or our kids are in marching band. Or maybe, just maybe, you love the Everglades and we met on my airboat.

You can still find me in the Everglades. I can't get enough of my alligator friends. Though, life at home is changing a bit. The oldest is heading off to college and the youngest is about to start his last year of high school. He has his sights on attending art college so I am helping to guide him in building his portfolio. He may even attend my alma mater.

When I'm not on the water, I can be found in my art studio working on my latest creation. Lately, I have been focussed on the study of the octopus and am having a wonderful time sculpting them onto anything and everything I can think of. Peruse the pictures or visit my page on FaceBook.

Each creation is sculpted in place on a vessel or item of glass, metal, or porcelain. I'm working with a variety of objects including recycled bottles, antique medicine bottles, vases, metal picture frames, ornaments, seashells, and light fixtures.

The eyes of the octopus are typically onyx beads but other gems or glass may be used, depending on the color scheme. The octopus is coated in a mica powder finish and varnished.

Once the varnish is dry, the piece is meticulously cleaned and attention paid to making sure that the arms and details are properly affixed to the vessel.

The entire process takes about 15 hours from start to finish.

Prices range from $50 to $150 for my collection of bottles and frames. Smaller pieces range from $30 to $60. Custom orders will be quoted based on the specific request. I have added Christmas ornaments to my collection. They are $25 a piece or 4 for $80. I also customize the color of the ornaments on request. Ornaments are on sale starting October 1st. Custom orders are taken until early November for International orders and late November for the continental US.
